Despite Being Mandated, Many Drivers Remain Underinsured Motorists

Unfortunately, even though automobile insurance is mandated under Washington law, many individuals are opting to carry little, or no, coverage, in an attempt to reduce premiums. In fact, while the laws of the State of Washington are clear in requiring minimum mandatory insurance coverage, a growing number of drivers are carrying no insurance at all. According to a recent study, approximately 16% of Washington drivers are uninsured. If you are involved in an accident while driving on Washington roadways, there is a good chance that you will be struck by a driver carrying absolutely no automobile insurance coverage. Additionally, many of drivers carry only the minimum requirements of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Property Damage Liability coverage, which would provide nothing to compensate you for your injuries.

Most drivers carry Uninsured Motorist coverage, which may be able to provide compensation to you for the damages resulting from the negligence of a third party. The premiums for Underinsured Motorist coverage are often nominal in comparison to the premiums for Bodily Injury Liability coverage.

The Process of Recovery in an Underinsured Motorist Personal Injury Claim
